FOOD FOR THOUGHT

We are in an urgent need to shift our current cradle-to-grave paradigm. Take-away cups and packaging are a standard of everyday life but they produce an incredible amount of waste that ends up in landfills and contaminates our precious waterways and landscapes. What if aside from being a material resource, nature could also provide a solution for this worldwide issue?

- Crème Design Studio

Wellbeing does however require more than just flat color and some greenery. In this acutely digital age, as physical, sensory beings we have a primal need to surround ourselves with surfaces that thrill our fingertips or tempt our toes. Tactile stimulation […] triggers oxytocin, the love hormone. It also lowers cortisol levels, reducing anxiety and stress. It is the language of compassion, helping us bond and connect with others.

  • IT’S TRENDING!
. How many American diner style images have you seen lately?
I guess quite a bit!
. What would be THE WHY behind this manifestation of a trend?
Most likely, the fact that we are driven more towards a community thinking and gathering influenced by a thriving co-working community.
Benches has been around for a while to favor more social life and make a come-together more informal.
On the other side, the diner type allows for some privacy feeling like you were in a cocooning space.
So this is what it is: open, flexible but with a twist of intimacy 😉
. We will come up with a post soon, meanwhile please swipe to left to see more examples.

  • CREATIVE WASTE
is a term we made up a while ago seeing many projects popping up where waste would be transformed into treasure.
There is an ongoing series on Eclectic Trends and we dedicated a whole chapter to it in our digital Trend Book REGENERATION. .
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The images above belong to the project by Agne Kucerenkaite that tackles metal waste which has to pass a long process of preparation in order to use it as a pigment: drying, milling, and sieving accordingly. .

  • As I am traveling back from a two-days trip to France where I have been talking trends, I stumbled upon the story of this project and it really did resonate with me. MNMA studio was commissioned to design Haight’s latest store in Rio de Janeiro (wonderful swimwear, check them out!).
. Brutalism is a very strong architectural style and we were just talking about this morning how relevant it is right now during the trend talk. It makes me happy to see there are actually quite some manifestations in that area that have a clear Brutalism inspiration.
. You can read about the biggest challenge they found when planning on the project and which they actually turned into a striking signature feature.

  • MULTI - CULTURAL FUSIONS ARE THE BEST!
. A few days back, we wrote on Eclectic Trends about a Franco-Japanese store in Paris, today we’d like to show you another project that talks about ‘privacy’ (see precious post on IG).
. The overall layout of the restaurant that unites Kuwaiti and Japanese traditions, as well as the decision to create private dining rooms with independent accesses, responds directly to the Kuwaiti culture.
Privacy is always a key component when designing projects in Kuwait and the Gulf in general.
This is rather a contrast to where I live with a more ‘vivid’ experience in the hospitality field. They say they serve Japanese tapas - that means some Spanish culture is involved, right?
😉

Some say ‘silence’ is the new luxury, a topic we will further explore in upcoming Trend Books this year. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
For the time being, Isaac Piñeiro has taken inspiration from a Spanish carriage or ‘tartana’ to provide us with the privacy and noise protection that we yearn for in open spaces. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
