A renovated textile workshop in Paris

A renovated textile workshop in Paris
Isabelle Heilmann embarked on her design journey by establishing her agency, Epicène, in 2018. With a penchant for merging minimalism with vibrant hues and distinctive statement pieces, the studio crafts both public and residential spaces such as this renovated textile workshop in Paris.

In a recent project, Heilmann’s ingenuity shines as she reconfigures and transforms a former textile workshop on Rue Jean-Pierre Timbaud (Paris) into a contemporary open-plan apartment with a designated home office (image 5). Tasked with optimizing the space while preserving its unique charm, Heilmann tackled the challenge with finesse.

The initial layout posed several challenges, including cramped quarters and impractical mezzanines. Heilmann’s solution was to strategically remove existing structures and implement level changes, effectively redefining the space. By incorporating internal windows and glass partitions, she adeptly maintains a seamless flow while allowing natural light to permeate every corner.

Heilmann’s design philosophy is evident as she remarks, “Now, from the moment you enter, you have a global vision of the volume of the apartment. It’s a way to have a very open plan without the disadvantages of the loft.” The apartment now exudes an inviting aura, seamlessly blending functionality with aesthetic appeal.
