Tina Vlassopolus Ceramics - Eclectic Trends

Tina Vlassopulos is a studio potter based in London producing one off hand built vessels in beautiful organic and sculptural forms. I always admire artisans who have a clear signature and Tina is definitely one of these.

Educated at Bristol Polytechnic, she builds pieces that look different from every angle and are full of movement with twists, curves and spirals which remind nature’s shapes but have a very modern and contemporary feel at the same time.

Tina mixes an oxide into the clay to give it a buff color, she then constructs the pot using coils of the clay. Once fired, the piece is hand burnished to give the the pot a silk-like sheen. I must be wonderful to hold one of her pieces in your hands with your eyes closed!

At the ceramics atelier we sometimes discuss whether a piece has more of an artistic value if it’s done with a functional use or thought as a decorative object. I believe both possibilities are very well balanced here. G, x
