She had me at this starting image of her site! Nature is the main motif of Christiane Löhr‘s sculptures and installations using seeds of diverse vegetable species, stalks, stems, inflorescences of small plants, at times even horsehair. Fragile and transparency are the words that come to me when seeing her work which fits so nicely in the current trend all things related to nature being styled in a unexpected way or let’s say, repurposing nature elements once taken out of their natural environment.
Through these simple materials, picked by the artist on an urban roadside or during a walk in the country, Löhr observes the perfection of the geometrical shapes, their inner structures, as well as their compositional potential, by dividing, sorting and drying them.
With slow and patient handwork, and renouncing any kind of adulteration (she does not employ glue or any other chemical material to keep the elements together), the artist creates constructions a few centimetres high, finite shapes that open up to infinite associations.
Wonderful pieces and mood, go and see her site and let me hear what you think about her studio! G, xx
