This is why we want to share the hand-carved illuminated sculptures by Rogan Gregory:
1//In a nutshell:
Rogan Gregory is a New York-based artist who started as a design consultant for luxury fashion brands. The artist’s approach combines a sculptural perspective with the street energy of New York. His work reveals a unique sensibility for design, architecture and science. During the past decade, Rogan combined his fashion career with the production of an interesting body of sculptures and paintings.
2//What drawour attention the most:
Rogan Gregory’s latest works are named “Fertility Form” and were presented earlier this year at R & Co.’s new space in Tribeca. These works show Gregory’s interest in natural forms. As a result, ecological systems and their the evolution into infinite organic combinations represents the starting point for the sculptural collection.
As we can read in R & Co.’s presentation, Rogan Gregory “is inspired by the ways in which water, the elements and time shape our world”. Therefore, he embraces and transforms this inspiration into a sculptural piece that evokes a sense of balance and harmony. Gregory does this by using a meditative approach that helps him transform the shape or the combination of shapes. The result is a series of elegant and minimal forms.
The appearance of the sculptural lights, especially when illuminated, seems to evoke a more profound sense of being and a deeper connection to nature. Also the color palette of the natural stones suggests quietness and introspectiveness.
Finally, Rogan Gregory mainly works with hand-carved natural stone, such as translucent alabaster, agate, or calcite. Each piece is unique and each is hand carved and polished. A round brass touch control on the back of each sculptural light work as switch to turn the light on and off.
3//The bigger picture
Rogan Gregory‘s unique pieces is intimately related to the investigation of our relationship with nature. The organic shapes clearly refer to our ancestral and primeval connection whereas the selection of soothing tones of the materials produces a relaxing feeling.
Designers are focusing more and more in helping us to create a calm zone where reconnect with ourselves and nature, as revealed in next year Trend Reports that you can see here and here.
