This is why we’d like to share the vibrant metallic rugs by Alex Proba:
1// In a nutshell:
Designer Alex Proba has recently designed a series of vibrant metallic rugs for Roll & Hill’s showroom called ’Luster’. In this collection, Proba, famous for her choice of bold color palette combined to very graphic compositions, moves towards more soften tones representing a break from the Studio usual style.
2// What draw our attention the most:
The opulent yet vibrant aesthetic of this four-pieces series is what got our attention. “Luster” rugs are a combination of dark silky blocks, soft pastels and intricated golden lines that energize the design.
In the collection, Alex Proba has managed to combine effectively the everyday element with a luxurious allure: the rugs are a made of a blend of bamboo silk, wool, and metallic yarn and it is this latter element, combined with the strong graphics of the pieces, that make them unique. “It’s rare to find metallic yarn in rugs meant for everyday use. It was interesting to introduce it into a medium where it doesn’t belong,” says Proba.
The combination of textures created by the variety of pile heights as well the combination of muted and monochromatic tones are the key factor that allowed the designer to make “Luster” series looks elegant and not overdone.
The elegant aesthetics of the series reverberates in the renderings created by Barcelona-based Andrés Reisinger and Six N. Five, whose visual poetry we appreciate particularly here at Eclectic Trends. It is with good reason, we selected one of their projects as a cover image for our SS19 Trend Report.
3// The bigger picture
Alex Proba is one of those creatives that seem to embody just the perfect style of the moment, like her subdued color palette and the rounded shapes of the rugs. Also, she often creates projects in collaboration with like-minded designers, such as her furniture work for Bower, showcased in the latter campaign directed by Charlie Schuck that you can see here.
