We’re excited to share another year 3 Color Trends 2022 by Dulux Australia, who have given us many wonderful color directions for Australia and New Zealand for the past years. Since its inception, Dulux Colour Expert, Andrea Lucena-Orr, has worked on every Colour Forecast and shares her trend forecasting process.
Dulux Australia is presenting three (instead of four) new tonal palettes inspired by our natural surroundings. Flourish, Restore, and Wonder represent rich, earthy tones and natural textures, alongside joyful, summery hues that awaken a zest for life.
1// FLOURISH
Are we back to a more moody atmosphere? The Flourish palette speaks to our newfound sense of adventure and passion for life – featuring rich, sensual hues such as petrol blue, desert red, and dusty rose alongside warm neutrals and a pop of vintage gold. This combination creates a feeling of warmth and intimacy in any space. Interiors can be layered, expressive, and unapologetically individual.
Interiors are layered, expressive, and unapologetically individual, with decadent fabrics such as velvet, silk, and natural leather, paired with one-off vintage finds, such as a quirky 1960s lamp or an authentic 1940s mirror. The exaggerated curves in sofas and general seating evoke a ‘70s disco vibe, with additions such as marble and oxidized metallics adding a luxurious and thoroughly modern edge.
It’s a look for those who want to re-write design rules,’ says Lucena- Orr. ‘As we move towards more freedoms, these colors enrich our feelings of empowerment and spark our imagination. With this comes the unrestricted expression, inclusivity, and a celebration of the diversity in our community.’

2// RESTORE
Comfort is the priority when it comes to decorating our homes. We want to surround ourselves with cosy and cocooning pieces to help us relax and process the events of the past year. The sense of touch we’ve been deprived of is at the forefront of considered design. Having spent so much time on our devices, there’s a desire for a connection with the natural world.
The Restore palette consists of gentle, earth-based neutrals alongside more rugged, natural tones; buttercream, pumice, deep blue, clay, rich forest green, moss and charcoal-purple. These colors recede and do not demand attention, instead soothing our senses and providing a reassuring backdrop to readjust to constant change.

3// WONDER
The Wonder palette reflects the desire to be less serious and welcomes fun back into the home. Colors are playful, summery, and 80s-inspired. Together they create a dreamy and sentimental feel with the promise of better days lying ahead.
We celebrate an acknowledgment of what joy has to offer. There’s a sense of reawakening and celebration as we prepare to reconnect with friends, family, and our everyday lives, longing for a cheerful and optimistic feel.
Wonder allows us to introduce colors that bring joy and optimism back into our homes. Brighter colors evoke memories of carefree days and help us imagine possibilities from now on.
