Surreal and absurd design: Meet Nik Bentel’s handbag with four wheels

March 4, 2025

We don’t cover fashion news or design per se, but if we observe cross-industry directions, we might cover the story to make a point. Surreal and absurd design (in the best sense possible) is just such a thing now and goes beyond one creative field. We expect to discover much more in the next 12 months and can’t wait to see what the Salone ’25 will offer.

Nikolas Bentel, a New York-based designer renowned for his whimsical and avant-garde creations, has once again redefined fashion boundaries with his latest innovation: the RC Car Handbag. This limited-edition accessory seamlessly fuses high fashion with remote-control technology, offering style and interactive functionality.

The RC Car Handbag is a testament to Bentel’s commitment to transforming everyday objects into extraordinary fashion statements. This handbag is not merely a static accessory; it’s equipped with a built-in remote-controlled car mechanism, allowing it to move autonomously. The design process involved months of meticulous prototyping, ensuring that the handbag not only meets aesthetic standards but also functions seamlessly as a remote-controlled device.

Perfect for sending notes across a dinner table, or just for making a scene.

The handbag’s four-wheel-drive system enables it to navigate flat surfaces with ease, reaching speeds of up to nine miles per hour. While its tiny wheels are not suited for off-road terrains, they are perfect for smooth surfaces, making it an ideal accessory for playful interactions at social gatherings.

Only 300 units of the RC Car Handbag were produced, emphasizing exclusivity. Each piece is hand-assembled, reflecting Bentel’s dedication to quality and craftsmanship.
